Last time I went to Trader Joe’s, I bought their dark chocolate sunflower seed butter cups, and they were great! It’s basically the equivalent of a peanut butter cup, but without nuts or tree nuts. They’re also gluten-free, dairy-free, and soy-free. What’s not to like?
I also love Trü Frü’s white- and dark-chocolate-covered frozen raspberries, which now come in a convenient pint instead of just a resealable bag. Now, these are not actually lactose-free, because the white chocolate contains milk powder, but I eat them in such small quantities that it has no effect. I really enjoy these, especially as a sweet treat after lunch.
Then there’s Cool Haus, which makes dairy-free frozen treats. I bought a box of their cones in cookie dough flavor and they were great! I am especially happy that this vegan ice cream comes in lots of flavors, and that there are treats like cones and sandwiches. I noticed only when I got home that the box contains just three cones, but there are four of us. It turns out it was fine because the Fox doesn’t like anything cold, but that could easily have been a disaster in another context. I’d love to try more of their products!
Finally, I tried Ernd dark chocolate truffles in coconut, sea salt, and raspberry. I was curious about these vegan truffles, as they contain only 0.5 g of net carbs per serving. The truffles are little cubes, covered in chocolate; each is individually wrapped. I actually found them a bit inconvenient. A serving size is one truffle, but I was eating two and, even when making them last by eating each in two bites, it felt like I had less per sitting than with my regular chocolate bars (even though the weight was roughly equivalent). And let’s be clear that they are not a low-calorie food. That being said, they were good! I liked the raspberry flavor less than I thought I would, and the coconut flavor was my favorite.
