Van's Gluten-Free Waffles

I recently tried gluten-free waffles by Van’s Natural Foods. I like that they’re made with whole grains; the gluten-free flour mix contains brown rice flour, potato starch, rice flour and soy flour. They’re also sweetened with apple juice instead of sugar, and they happen to be vegan. I got the apple-cinnamon flavor, but they come in plain and blueberry, too, and Van’s has a lot of different breakfast products in the frozen section (waffles, waffle sticks, English muffins, muffin crowns and pancakes). Van’s also makes products that are not gluten-free (such as their 8-grain line or their organic products), but all products labeled wheat-free and gluten-free pass rigorous tests and are safe for people with wheat allergies and gluten intolerance.

I thought the waffles were good, but only once I got them right. You see, I was never able to get them to heat up properly in the toaster; they always stayed cold and grainy in the middle, or got overcooked if I left them in longer. I had to follow directions and use the oven to warm them up, but with the preheating time, that came out to almost 20 minutes. The reason I buy frozen waffles is because I want a quick, convenient breakfast, and this wasn’t as quick as I had anticipated. So while I would recommend them to people with dietary restrictions, it is with the caveat that they are not instant.
